Current Members
Meet our current team members who are actively contributing to our research.

Dr. Huang Chen
Principal Investigator
Dr. Huang Chen is an Assistant Professor at UNLV specializing in experimental and computational fluid dynamics. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and completed his postdoctoral training at Georgia Tech/Emory University. His research focuses on blood flow in medical devices, cavitation in turbomachinery, and advanced flow measurement techniques. He also develops data-driven models for biomedical and aerospace applications. Outside the lab, he enjoys hiking, stargazing, fishing, reading, and building electronic prototypes for fun.

Siquan Huo
Ph.D. Student
Siquan Huo joined FIL in 2024 fall. He got his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering in China. He is interested in fluid dynamics, specifically in experiments like the PIV technique.

Isabella Stanley
Master Student
Isabella Stanley is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering at the UNLV. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, which has provided a strong technical foundation for approaching complex biomedical challenges.

Jerome Ariola
Undergraduate Student
Jerome is a undergraduate research student in FIL. He was a Mission Planning Intern at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory previously

Daniel Gadaleta
Undergraduate Student
Daniel Gadaleta is a B.S. Mechanical Engineering student. He is working with Thomas Miller and Dong Song in performing neutronics simulations for an optimization research study on the centrifugal nuclear thermal rocket (CNTR) concept.

Thomas Miller
Undergraduate Student
Thomas is a junior majoring in Mechanical Engineering at UNLV. He is currently working on a rocket engine project aimed at increasing the speed at which spacecraft can travel in space. In addition, he is assisting with testing for the LVAD project, focusing on analyzing fluid dynamics within the system. Looking ahead, Thomas hopes to work on race engines or contribute to the aerodynamic design of racecars. Becoming an engineer for companies like Toyota, Porsche, or Ford would be a dream come true for him.

Dong Song
Undergraduate Student
Dong is an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering student at UNLV, originally from South Korea. He is currently assisting Daniel Gadelata in analyzing neutron flux distribution using OpenMC, with the goal of improving the energy efficiency of the CNTP core design. Outside of academics and research, he enjoys playing baseball in his free time.

Miguel Vasco-Torres
Undergraduate Student
Miguel is an undergraduate student majoring in Mechanical Engineering at UNLV. He is currently working on the controls and data acquisition system for a flow loop designed to test blood pumps.
