Transcatheter Aortic Valve

Our paper titled “Effects of Implantation Height on the Performance of a Redo Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Using a Balloon-Expandable Valve” has been accepted for publication in the JTCVS Open! It is our first paper studying the effects of implantation height for TAVR-in-TAVR. It provides valuable insights for clinicians as more and more TAVR-in-TAVR procedures are been performed in the future.

Our paper titled “Effect of Ascending Aortic Curvature on Flow in the Sinus and Neo-sinus Following TAVR/:/ A Patient-Specific Study” has been accepted for publication in the Annals of Biomedical Engineering! We conducted detailed Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) experiment to quantify the relationship between the geometry, flow downstream of transcather aortic valve, and the flow in the sinus and the neo-sinus. Results showed that distinct vortical flow patterns in the ascending aorta as the main jet impinges on the aortic wall causes a recirculation region that facilitates the flow back into the sinus and the neo-sinus, thus reducing the risk of flow stagnation and washout time.

Excited to learn that our grant titled “Novel Centrifugal LVAD with Wireless Power Transfer and Antithrombotic SLIC Coating” has been recommended for funding! As a Co-Investigator, I am honored to join this great team to push the boundaries that will drastically increase the hemocompatibility of left ventricular assist devices. The 7.8 million dollar DoD funding will be shared among Georgia Tech, North Carolina State University, Rice University, and Texas Heart Institute. Dr. Lakshmi Dasi is the PI for this effort.

Our paper titled “An In-Vitro Study of the Flow past a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Using Time-Resolved 3D Particle Tracking” has been accepted for publication in the Annals of Biomedical Engineering! It is our first paper using 3D particle tracking to study the flow structures, particle residence time, and pressure downstream of a heart valve. The method will lead to more high-impact in vitro studies in the future. Stay tuned!
